Stamped

Blocks customization

CASE STUDY

overview

Stamped is an ecommerce platform that provides loyalty and reviews capabilities to online store. To set up a loyalty program, a merchant must fill out a set of customizable blocks for their store that explains how their rewards program functions. Customers can earn rewards based on purchases, following on social media or a variety of other activities of the merchants choosing. They can also spend their reward points in a similar fashion.

problem

Merchants were providing feedback that the customization capabilities of the loyalty blocks were too limited. They were only able to alter text, button and link colours. Many desired background images which would only be capable with the use of developers.

solution

My role in this 2 month project was to research competitors and incorporate the best customization solutions for each of our blocks into the existing dashboard. I looked at how other companies allow for custom blocks and presented these visual alternatives to both the lead designer and product manager. Based on their feedback, I mocked up possible customizations involving background images as well as the custom icons and colours. I refined ideas further, I built them into the dashboard after further direction from the product manager as to what feature we were going to support.

The newly revised 6 different blocks incorporated a variety of highly customizable layouts that didn’t only involve background images. The summary block describing the introduction could be center, right or left aligned, with background images and an option to change the opacity of the layer behind the text. For blocks with icons, there are now options to add custom icons. In both the spending and earning blocks the merchant is able to opt for a card, or list layout. In the card layout, they can have a banner or full images on each card. VIP block now have the ability to layout in list view, add colour to the entire chart and highlight a tier.
We also allowed merchants to publish single blocks on a page or multiple blocks per page. By implementing 2 publishing options, merchants have a higher level on control over how they wish to display their rewards program.

Success would be measured by customer satisfaction and use of these new features once launched.
